How to Run a Math Teachers' Circle
AIM Math Teachers' Circle Immersion Workshop

"How to run a Math Teachers' Circle" Workshops

June 22-26, 2009, AIM Research Conference Center, Palo Alto, CA

July 27-31, 2009, MAA Carriage House Conference Center, Washington, D.C.

The application deadline for these workshops has passed.

In Summer 2009, AIM anticipates holding two workshops on "How to Run a Math Teachers' Circle." Every aspect of organizing and running a MTC will be covered, from the logistics of recruitment and finding a venue through the long-term goals of evaluating the success of local programs and raising funds for continued sustainability. Days will start with mock MTC sessions so that teams become familiar with the style and content associated with the program and will end with guided planning sessions. During the course of the week, each team who attends will develop a concrete plan for how to run their own local MTC.

Participation is entirely free of charge, thanks to the generous support of our sponsors.

Who Should Attend?

Running a MTC is a team effort that requires collaboration across traditional educational boundaries. We are seeking six teams of five people to attend each workshop. Each team should consist of two middle school math teachers, two mathematicians, and one administrator or other organizer.

How to Participate

Starting a MTC in your own community will provide a local, long-term resource for enriching mathematical content knowledge among area middle school teachers. If you are interested in being part of this growing national program, please apply with your team here for the Palo Alto workshop, June 22-26, 2009, and here for the workshop in Washington, D.C., July 27-31, 2009.

Applications for this year's "How to Run a Math Teachers' Circle" workshops are no longer being accepted. Please check back in the late fall for information about workshops next summer.
