Brian Conrey,

conrey(at)aimath.org (650) 845-2071 Brian Conrey is the founding Executive Director of the American Institute of Mathematics. He received his PhD from the University of Michigan in 1980. He has served on the faculties of the University of Illinois and Oklahoma State University, and has been a member of the Institute for Advanced Study four times. He is also a Professor at Bristol University and a Consulting Professor at Stanford University. He serves as an editor of the Journal of Number Theory and is also active in Math Circles and Math Teachers' Circles. His research interests are analytic number theory and random matrix theory. |

Estelle Basor,
Deputy Director

She recently retired from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo and has held visiting positions at UC Santa Cruz and Bryn Mawr College. Her research interests are in the areas of operator theory and random matrix theory, and serves on the Editorial Board of Random Matrices: Theory and Applications. |

David W. Farmer,

farmer(at)aimath.org David Farmer is a founding member of ARCC, the AIM Research Conference Center. He received his PhD from Oklahoma State University and his research interests are in L-functions and modular forms. Farmer develops Web-based tools for research mathematics and currently serves as chair of the AMS Committee on Meetings and Conferences. |

Brianna Donaldson,
Director of Special Workshops
brianna(at)aimath.org Brianna Donaldson received her PhD from Indiana University. Her research interests include mathematical models of perceptual decision-making. Her role at AIM involves managing the Math Teachers' Circle Network, a national network of professional development communities for middle school math teachers, the Careers in Academia workshop for recent PhDs, and the Research Experience for Undergraduate Faculty (REUF) workshop, and coordinating AIM's contributions to Finding and Keeping Graduate Students in the Mathematical Sciences, a project to increase the recruitment and retention of U.S. women and underrepresented minorities at the graduate level. |

Leslie Hogben,
Associate Director for Diversity
hogben(at)aimath.org Leslie Hogben is a professor of mathematics at Iowa State University. She received her Ph.D. from Yale University. She works in linear algebra, especially combinatorial matrix theory. She particularly enjoys doing research with graduate and undergraduate students. Hogben is an associate editor of Linear Algebra and Its Applications, an associate editor of Electronic Journal of Linear Algebra, editor of Handbook of Linear Algebra, and the Secretary/Treasurer of the International Linear Algebra Society. |

heffel(at)aimath.org Ellen Heffelfinger supervises AIM's historical mathematics collection and its working library. She holds a B.A. from Yale and an M.S. from Columbia. She spent 15 years in the rare book business, specializing in science, before joining AIM. |

She handles all the everyday Financial Administration as well as Human Resources issues including payroll, benefits, 403b plans, and new hires. She has a background in finance, accounting, and general office management and is a Certified Grants Specialist. |

Lori Mains,
Outreach Coordinator
mains(at)aimath.org Lori Mains oversees AIM's outreach programs for the Morgan Hill community and talented math students in grades 4-12. Lori has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Union College in Schnectady, NY. A former IBM employee, Lori has spent the past ten years working with school age children and math, through both school based programs and one-on-one tutoring. The current programs which she administers include the Math Mardi Gras (a one day community math event), Mathletics (4th-6th grade), MathCounts (6th-8th grade) and Mu Alpha Theta (9th-12th grade). |

He received his PhD from the University of California at Santa Cruz and was on the faculty and served as department chair at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. He has a number of research interests including in combinatorics, probability, and game theory. |
